Belonging in the North - Support Worker

Casual Position 

Classification: GO2 $38.40 per hour + 25% casual loading + Superannuation

What you’ll be doing

 

We are seeking a passionate team member in the newly created role of Belonging in the North – Support Worker to work within our Information Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grant funded project.

 

You will be supporting Aboriginal people with disability and their families to participate in culturally safe programs to increase community and social connections and feel a strong connection to culture.

 

This role is a casual position supporting a grant funded project with funding that ends June 2026. There is no guarantee of fixed number of hours, but the ideally the successful applicant will have flexible with working hours to support the project. There is also opportunity to pick up additional work across Council’s community venues and programs.

 

Your key accountabilities will include:  

  • Support the Belonging in the North Project Coordinator to deliver of culturally appropriate programs for Aboriginal people with disability and their families.
  • Provide support to people with disability in programs using a person-centred approach to encourage active involvement in activities.
  • Provide information and support to Aboriginal people with disability and their families to increase their awareness of mainstream and NDIS funded supports available in the community.
  • Regularly review programs and events delivered to ensure they are meeting the needs of the community. 

What you’ll bring to the role

 

We are looking for someone with relevant qualifications or professional or lived experience in disability.

 

In addition, you will have: 

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting people with disability to participate in a range of activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects related to community development and social inclusion.
  • Knowledge of social, health and participation barriers facing Aboriginal community, particularly Aboriginal people with disability.
  • Commitment to delivering programs in a way that supports customer rights, diversity, access, and inclusion.
  • Experience working in Local Government is an added bonus but not essential! 

This position requires a National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance. The successful applicant must satisfy or be willing to satisfy these requirements as part of the recruitment process.
