About the Role This is a senior technical role where you will play a key part in guiding complex building and compliance outcomes across a diverse and rapidly growing council area. The position offers a salary starting from $108,080 plus superannuation, with remuneration negotiable based on qualifications and experience. You will work across a broad mix of commercial, industrial, residential and community developments, providing high level technical advice and contributing to high quality development outcomes across the city. This role offers a mix of technical work, leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem solving. You will also have the opportunity to mentor developing Building Surveyors, influence process improvements, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Building & Compliance team. Key responsibilities include: - Providing expert advice on complex building and compliance matters
- Supporting enforcement activities and representing Council where required
- Supporting the operation of the Council’s Building Fire Safety Committee
- Mentoring and guiding building surveyors within the team
- Helping the team manage workloads and priorities
- Supporting reporting, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Undertaking commercial building inspections and Building Rules assessments
- Working closely with builders, developers, consultants and internal teams to achieve practical outcomes

About You You are an experienced Building Surveyor who enjoys solving problems, building strong professional relationships and contributing to a positive team culture. You bring strong technical capability, confidence in decision making, and a practical approach to navigating legislation and compliance matters. You are also someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, supporting others and contributing to continuous improvement. To be successful, you will have: - Accreditation as a Building Surveyor Level 1 or Level 2 (essential)
- Demonstrated experience in building compliance, and the assessment and inspection of commercial and residential buildings
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including:
- Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016
- National Construction Code and Australian Standards
- Experience in enforcement activities and preparing statutory notices/orders
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence
Supervisory or mentoring experience will be highly regarded.
